Important Features Of Auto Seat Hardware
Seat
hardware can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, hardware such as nuts and
bolts. A bolt is a form of threaded fastener with an external male thread.
Bolts are very closely related to screws. Many threaded fasteners can be
described as either screws or bolts, depending on how they are used. Bolts are
often used to make a bolted joint. This is a combination of the nut applying an
axial clamping force and also the shank of the bolt acting as a dowel, pinning
the joint against sideways shear forces. Hardware is used to hold a load of
automotive bolts, prevent leakage, distribute pressure and they are used to
combine various parts. Metal fasteners are usually cold worked and heat-treated
to ensure strength and durability. Bolts may be screwed directly into a
threaded hole in the part they are to hold, or they may be held in place by
nuts.

Frequent Problems With Auto Seat Hardware
The
most frequent cause of loosening is the side sliding of the nut or bolt head
relative to the joint, resulting in relative motion occurring in the threads.
Pre-loaded bolts or nuts rotate loose, as soon as relative motion between the
male and female threads takes place. Friction causes galling, so any form of
interference or heat build-up can cause galling. Common triggers are debris in
the thread, reusing over-tightened hardware, and threading soft materials
together such as stainless steel. Another common trigger is damaged threads due
to shipping. Excessive tightening can result in slippage of nuts or bolts. Due
to no lubrication hardware can be rusted. Fasteners like stainless steel,
aluminum, and titanium produce their own protective oxide film to prevent
corrosion and are especially prone to galling. The film breaks down under
installation pressures and the resulting metal-to-metal friction causes heat
that fuses and can seize the metal.
